This year we extended the challenge to our state titleholders to volunteer their time for our Make-A-Difference Day Challenge to benefit CMN. This week we would like to share with you Shannon Folsom's efforts. Here is what she sent to us:

As part of this special day, Shannon Folsom, Miss Maine's Outstanding Teen, visited The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, the Maine affiliate of the Children's Miracle Network.

Here is what she had to say about her day:

Visiting the pediatric patients at our local Children's Miracle Network affiliate, the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, this past month was truly rewarding.  Some of the children enjoyed asking about pageants and were delighted to have the opportunity to get a picture to bring to their friends and family.  Others simply enjoyed having someone to talk to about their stay at the hospital and their plans for the future, and were pleased to have someone to do puzzles and crafts with.  Of course, every child's smile brightened at the sight of a crown.  Even the babies cooed and smiled!

The children at the CMN hospital appreciated having someone spend a little time visiting with them and I would encourage every Outstanding Teen to make such a visit.  Brightening a child's day will surely add a little sunshine to your own!

During this Holiday season, world-renowned jewelry designer David Yurman appreciates the need for scholastic and talent opportunities for today's youth and would like to invite you to partner together in supporting MAOT this Holiday Season.

La Casa To Auction Celebrity Dresses
La Casa Hermosa Dress Auction benefiting MAOT and Caitlin's Closet

At the farewell luncheon sponsored by La Casa Hermosa for Caitlin Brunell, Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2008, Ami Manning presented over 50 dresses on behalf of Paris, Nicky and Kathy Hilton to Brunell for Caitlin's Closet. Brunell started Caitlin's Closet to be able to provide girls with dresses for special occasions that could not otherwise afford them thus raising their self esteem.

The dresses were divided and many of the remaining dresses will be auctioned off by Robin Fleming and La Casa Hermosa to raise money for Caitlin's Closet and MAOT. Funds raised for Caitlin's Closet will go to purchase specific sizes that are in popular demand. New auctions begin every week!
